Focused on our communities

Belmont Green’s focus on building a successful, sustainable and responsible specialist mortgage lending business extends to supporting the two main communities which it serves, namely the UK mortgage industry and the local area around our head office in Staines-upon-Thames.

As part of our business culture, Belmont Green seeks to understand, respect and respond to the needs of all our stakeholders within the mortgage industry, particularly charities that work in partnership with the UK mortgage industry to fund those who are not able to afford their own home. Given the location of our head office, the company also regularly responds to the needs of the Staines-upon-Thames community through supporting charities aimed at helping local people.

In depth

A team of eight Vida Homeloans employees successfully completed the Prudential RideLondon -Surrey100 on 30th July 2017 to raise £5,000 for Shelter. The 100-mile bike ride, whose route starts at the Olympic Park, heads out to the Surrey Hills and ends on the Mall, was completed by Team Vida in a range of times from 5 to 7 hours. Their efforts put them in the top 1% of fundraisers on JustGiving.

Belmont Green helps people who might not fit high street lenders' criteria to buy property using a mortgage. But we recognise that not everyone is as fortunate with their housing and we feel that it is important to support Shelter in its work helping homeless families in the UK.

Belmont Green employees joined more than 500 colleagues from the mortgage industry in raising over £100,000 for the End Youth Homelessness (EYH) charity by sleeping out in the office car park in November 2018.  Nick Connolly, managing director at End Youth Homelessness, commented “This figure means that we can assist every young person who approached a local authority for help with homelessness last year. We hope this brilliant effort will inspire other industries to commit to working collaboratively to End Youth Homelessness.”
As part of the launch of our new Helping Hands mortgage, designed for people who want to help relatives onto or up the housing ladder, we offered mortgage intermediaries the chance to help their local communities with funds donated by Vida Homeloans. The winner of the prize draw asked for the £1,000 donation to go to purchase two metal storage containers to help store valuable equipment at Wisewood Junior FC’s venues in the Sheffield area.

Vida Homeloans sponsors The Big Duck Race at the Staines-upon-Thames Day in July each year to raise money for MidasPlus – a local charity dedicated to helping the disadvantaged in Staines-upon-Thames, Egham and surrounding areas. Ducks from Vida race alongside 100 others on a route which starts at the Two Rivers Pub on River Colne and finishes on the River Thames.  Individuals and companies buy large ducks and decorate them in an array of different styles with logos, colours, and accessories. From Drake the duck to a ‘James Pond’ dressed duck, Vida’s staff truly embrace the decorative side of the event!

MidasPlus raises and distributes funds to community groups and individuals who have nowhere else to turn. It was first established in 2005 and has since distributed more than £200,000 to worthwhile causes.

As a significant local employer, Belmont Green supports Spelthorne Borough Council in a number of ways, including hosting events such as the Staines-upon-Thames Business Improvement District (BID) meetings and contributing funds towards the Staines-upon-Thames Christmas lights and the Egham Royal Show.
